What’s the weight limit for an awning?

Awnings themselves don’t usually have a "weight limit" like roof racks do, but what does matter is the load rating of the roof rack system they're mounted to and the total weight of the awning being installed.

Most pull-out awnings weigh between 10 to 25 kg, while larger 180° and 270° awnings, especially freestanding models, can weigh up to 35–40 kg or more. Your roof rack must be rated to safely carry that weight while driving, and it’s also important to factor in any additional accessories like side walls or lighting.

So while the awning itself doesn’t support external weight, its own weight must be supported by your roof rack.

If you’re unsure whether your setup can handle the weight of a specific awning, feel free to reach out. We’re happy to check the specs for your roof rack system and recommend an awning that’s safe and compatible.
