What is the difference between a through bar and a flush bar?

Through Bars

‘Through bars’ are a roof rack style in which the bars overhang past the legs, often by a few inches.

We highly recommend this bar style for its versatility. With through bars, you're more likely to be able to transfer them to a new vehicle in the future, using a new vehicle-specific fitting kit if needed.

These are generally more practical and provide more bar space for accessories and larger items such as kayaks, SUPs, and bike carriers, as the overhang can assist with side mounting.

If you also plan on mounting an awning to your vehicle, the 'Through bar' option is definitely the style we would recommend, as the leg on a 'Flush bar' can impede you from attaching an awning bracket.

Flush Bars

‘Flush bars’ are a roof rack style that finish flush with the leg, providing a sportier and neater look. Due to the style of legs that are used with flush bar fitments, these racks can sometimes sit slightly lower on your vehicle.

This is our recommended bar style if aesthetics are important to you, and if you only plan on carrying smaller loads as this bar offers less mounting space.

There is also a reduced chance of a flush bar fitting on your next vehicle, due to the systems being specific to your roof width.

If you are unsure of whether these bars will suit your desired use or the accessories you wish to mount, feel free to contact our Customer Service team or call your nearest store for further assistance.
