How to secure high-risk loads

How to secure high-risk loads

There are several steps you can take to secure high-risk loads on a vehicle:

  1. Check your vehicle's roof load rating: Make sure the vehicle is designed to carry the type and weight of the load you are transporting.

  1. Use the right equipment: Once you determine your vehicle's roof load rating, it is important to have the right roof racks to carry your gear, with a suitable load rating. Depending on your vehicle, this may be 2-3 crossbars or a platform. Use appropriate load-securing equipment such as straps or nets. The most common load securing equipment are cam buckle or ratchet straps due to their heavy-duty capacity.

  1. Inspect the load: Before you start driving, inspect the load to make sure it is properly secured and there are no loose items that could fall off during transport.

  1. Drive carefully: Take special care when driving with a high-risk load. Avoid sudden accelerations, hard braking, and sharp turns, keep a safe distance from other vehicles, and regularly check the load if driving long distances.

  1. Follow the law: In most places, there are specific laws and regulations governing the transport of high risk loads. Make sure you are familiar with these laws and comply with them at all times.
